Why bother?

1. Less damage to your when it ingests either water or dust
2. Less need to replace or clean the air filter when in dusty environs
3. A great conversation starter practically anywhere

Assuming that you are prepared to start cutting into the wing (fender) of your pride and joy then this pretty straightforward job is an effective and rather amusing way to tart up your DII. There are at least two 'snorkel' manufacturers; I chose the Safari type primarily because I didn't want to remove the wing. It looks somewhat more ostentatious, which is either a good or a bad thing, depending on your philosophy about these things. :)

Fitting time about 3-4 solid hours to get it right - less to get it wrong! Second time around would take about 2 hours. Manufacturer: ARB. Purchased from: Pangaea. Overall cost less than $400.

The driving experience is completely unchanged, and I'm pretty sure I don't hear any more wind noise either. Check it out in action (14MB movie) in Belize.

First holes cut - gulp!

Scary - 70mm hole saw starts its work. Aluminium flying everywhere!

Two holes cut, now to join them together

Jigsaw and 24pt blade makes light work of it - nice cut!

Offered-up in place

Inside the wing to the air tube. Note the crappy original seal not in place correctly

Sealing with sensor-safe silicone sealant

After much work it is done
